PAULA ROJAS

Hi, I’m Paula.

My work lives in the spaces between experience, movement,
time, and questions. I’m drawn to what emerges when we
pause and stop trying to be someone.

Some things begin
as rituals

a drawing a day, maps I knew and maps I invented,
a slow cartography of absence and return.

Others begin as traces

gathered and rearranged,
maps that twist the way thought drifts,
half-formed, always moving.

When the future arrives too quickly, I look back.

Digital landscapes reshaping into new ground.
They remind me how the work changes each time I do.

At times the work is
more tactile

coffee and ink emerging like fossils, stains, aerial memories.

What if shelter were a seed

something small, left for the earth to grow around it.

The land holds memory.

Landscapes stretch between the Andes and the Midwest,
belonging stitched quietly into bricks and walls.

Mountains carried home not as postcards, but thresholds.

They took something from me
as much as I took them.

And sometimes the work is simply about undoing

to pause, to resist resolution,
to sit with silence, and be.

Sketchbook fragment, Buenos Aires :

Nada está pasando realmente,
pero dentro de mí está pasando todo.

Hay una música que no suena afuera,
una danza que no se baila con el cuerpo.
 No estoy esperando nada.
 No falta nada.

Like when you are in love and the whole world becomes enough.
The city looks at me and I look back.
I am at peace without anything being perfect.
I am full without being complete.
I am alive.

These works are parts of the world I live in.
Shifting, wanting to be lived.
The real work can’t always be seen.
